United States President Donald Trump on Thursday publicly acknowledged Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during the National Prayer Breakfast held on February 5 in Washington, D.C.

The annual event, which traditionally gathers political leaders, clergy, and faith-based figures in the U.S. capital, briefly shifted focus when Trump interrupted his speech to recognise Mrs. Tinubu’s presence among the audience.

In his remarks, the American president highlighted the Nigerian First Lady’s standing and faith, drawing attention to her role as a Christian pastor in one of Nigeria’s largest churches and describing her as a woman of influence and deep spirituality.

“A very respected woman. First Lady, please, where are you? Thank you very much. It’s a great honor. Thank you very much. Very respected person, too,” Trump said as he scanned the room before acknowledging her.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says its enforcement of the ban on alcoholic beverages in sachets and small plastic or glass bottles is aimed at protecting children and young people and not punishing manufacturers.   In a statement on Thursday, January 29, NAFDAC director-general, Mojisola Adeyeye, said the policy was driven by public health concerns and growing evidence that alcohol packaged in sachets and containers below 200 milliliters has increased underage drinking across the country.   The agency recently began enforcement of the ban following a directive by the senate, with the backing of the ministry of health and social welfare.   According to Adeyeye, the small and cheap packaging of high-alcohol-content drinks makes them “easily accessible, affordable and concealable”, leading to widespread misuse among minors and some commercial drivers.       “This ban is not punitive; it is protective. It is ai...
