Ruben Amorim apologises to fans after League two club Grimsby dump Man United out of League Cup

Ruben Amorim has apologised to Manchester United supporters after his team's humiliating elimination from the League Cup by fourth-tier Grimsby Town on Wednesday.   United had fought back from 2-0 down, levelling through Harry Maguire’s 89th-minute header after a poor first-half performance at Blundell Park.   But a marathon penalty shootout ended 12-11 in Grimsby’s favour, with Bryan Mbeumo striking the bar on United’s final kick.   Amorim, under pressure since taking over last season, hinted at deeper problems within the team after another poor showing.   “The players spoke really loud today about what they want,” he said, suggesting a lack of desire from his squad.   Asked to explain what went wrong, Amorim admitted his side lacked urgency and was simply not ready for the battle.   “Everything. The way we started, we were not even here. Everything is so important in this club. We should do so much better,” he said. “I just have to say sorry to our...

PDP zones presidency to South, confirms Damagum as substantive National Chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.  The party ratified the zoning in a closed-door session at the party's 102nd NEC meeting held today August 25.   Unlike the more flexible arrangement of 2023, when the presidential ticket was thrown open, the party this time resolved—on the advice of its founding fathers—that its next presidential candidate must emerge from among eligible southerners. Multiple insiders confirmed that the decision was driven by consensus aimed at balancing interests and rebuilding trust.   In a related development, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP also ratified Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum as the party’s substantive National Chairman.   According to party leaders, the confirmation of Damagum is expected to restore stability, provide organizational clarity, and give the PDP a firmer footing as it prepares for its forthcoming national convention, which has faced dela...

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka to be ruled out for up to four weeks in new major injury blow

Arsenal star, Bukayo Saka, is set to be sidelined for up to four weeks, including for Arsenal’s trip to Liverpool this Sunday.   The 27-year-old hobbled off with an injury to his left hamstring in the Gunners’ 5-0 thrashing of Leeds United on Saturday.   Mikel Arteta fuelled concern further after full-time, claiming that the England international's injury did not look good.   "Bukayo was running with the ball, and he felt something in his hamstring. It's the other one, not the same as last season. He felt something when sprinting; it's not a good sign," the Arsenal boss explained.   "We have to wait to understand how long he will be out. I haven't spoken to the doctor yet, but for Bukayo to come off, it's significant."   According to BBC Sport, Saka will be unavailable for three to four weeks through a hamstring problem, which may be a more favourable outcome than first feared.   Captain Odegaard also left the pitch...
