- Nasarawa South Senator Aliyu Wadada has dumped the SDP and declared himself as a member of the ruling APC
- The senator made the declaration following his closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja
- According to Wadada, there is no one in the opposition who would do what Tinubu has done if elected in the 2027 election.
NEW-MUSK ; Aliyu Wadada, the senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, dumped the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Tuesday, August 12, and declared himself a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), while he was yet to complete the formalities of his defection.
The defecting senator also noted the political space would not give room for the opposition parties to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, adding that no candidate will have the support to defeat the Lagos-born politician in the next general election.
Wadada made the announcement while speaking with journalists after his closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.
Wadada speaks on PDP, ADC
The Nasarawa senators then described the leading opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as an ingredient in the pot to cook the ruling APC. He added that he had yet to see anyone in the coalition adopted party, the African Democratic Party (ADC), that would outperform President Tinubu if elected in the 2027 election.
He then expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for the honors he gave him, such as the national facilitation when he was turbaned as the Maga Jindengi of Lafia in August.
Wadada's defection came days after Rauf Aregbesola, the interim national secretary of the ADC, met with the leaders of the party in the southwest region, as part of his efforts to cripple the chances of President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Aregbesola moves to sack
Tinubu Aregbesola, a former protege of President Tinubu, who served as a two-term governor and Minister of Interior under the ruling APC, was appointed as the interim national secretary of the ADC when the party was adopted by the coalition movement.
The coalition, earlier championed by the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, was positioning itself as the alternative for Nigerians ahead of the 2027 election and vowed to sack President Tinubu through the poll. In actualizing the party's objective, Aregbesola started his mobilization from the grassroots, and the meeting was part of the larger agenda to ensure that President Tinubu did not return to office come 2027.
